The Līgatne sandstone cliffs aren't just stunning views — they're gateways to some of Latvia's most restorative natural experiences. We've gathered guides on everything from waterfall trails to secluded woodland spots where you can actually disconnect.
Late spring through early autumn offers the most accessible conditions. Water flow is strongest after rainfall, but trails are clearest in summer. Winter visits require proper footwear — the rocks get slippery.
Most accessible cave sections are straightforward, but bring a flashlight and wear sturdy shoes. The sandstone can be uneven. Some caves have narrow passages — if you're uncomfortable in tight spaces, stick to the larger caverns.
Most marked trails range from 45 minutes to 3 hours. We've included time estimates in each guide so you can pick based on your schedule and fitness level.
Public trails don't require permits. For cave exploration or less-known areas, a local guide really does improve the experience — they know the geology and hidden spots most visitors miss.
